Ontario Property Assessments = too much tax

CTV did a report last night regarding the way in which MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation) has been assessing properties for calculating taxes in Ontario. You have until the 31st of March to file a complaint about your tax assessment for 2006 but the Premier of Ontario is considering an extension. I live in Brooklin, does anyone else find the property taxes a little high here? Read the full story. Click here to view the Government of Ontario web site for more information.

New Restaurant for Brooklin

I was excited to see that the new Shoelesss Joe's opened for business recently. It came as a surprise, no 'Grand Opening". The food was great and the wait staff is very friendly, my baby boy loves them! It's a great place for family, business meetings and hanging out at the bar. This is great for our town.

Do you heat your home with electricity?

Good news! Hydro One has teamed up with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to provide financial incentives for energy-efficiency upgrades to low-income Hydro One customers who heat their homes with electricity. It could be an average of 30% savings on heating bills. This is also great for those considering the purchase of a home that has electric heat. Often, these homes are much more affordable for first time buyers. Read the full article.

Carnwith Dr. & 12 Road Almost Open

Good news for residents of Tribute's Village of Brooklin. The new road opening Hwy 12 up to Carnwith Drive looks like it is almost complete.

This should ease traffic in some parts of the nearby neighbourhood and create a safer left-turn alternative onto Hwy 12 instead of making the turn from Columbus Rd.
